Weqayah = Protection
The United Arab Emirates is promoting a nationwide scheme to universally improve public safety. A chief concern is fire, a frequent occurrence in the built up metropolitan areas. The Emirate of Ajman comprised of some 30,000 buildings in a high density mix of commercial, industrial and residential. Ajman evaluated several ATE systems in other projects before selecting Transdigital.
With the learned experience of other ATE projects, Ajman engaged Transdigital’s UAE distributor to implement the planning and trials of the TD2020 ATE system. The scope of development included the design and construction of a new dedicated Central Monitoring System, collaboration with Etisalat as the nominated telco for LTE data communications, compliance approvals from the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority and Ajman Civil Defence, the implementation of a subscription application system, building surveys and records, and local content in the manufacture of the end user product in Ajman. All preliminary tasks were successfully achieved in 2022.
The Ajman Security Services Support Authority was appointed as the superintendent of the roll-out of the new ATE system designed as Weqayah.
Transdigital collaborated with Etisalat to achieve the final network design and specifications which included retention of data in-country. Etisalat provides a data pool that each ATE draws down from. This data pool increases as more ATEs activate on the network.
The Weqayah CMS facility is in a new specially built office to house the monitoring staff each workstation having a large flat screen for visibility across the floor. There are 18 staff operating 24/7 on 3 shifts. The CMS has a back up electric generator in case of a power outage. Etisalat installed a fibre optic link to an internal back up data storage. On a daily basis, data is extracted for analysis of operational performance.
Transdigital’s Transit Fire dashboard is accessed via secure Internet as also done by the ATE installation crews fitting out the subscriber buildings. Each installation has a range of information recorded to ensure the commissioning and operation meets Weqayah requirements.
The TD2020 Type 1 ATE is manufactured by Transdigital Australia and supplied as tested then shipped to Ajman UAE. At the Weqayah facility each ATE is assembled into the ATE enclosure with power supply, cables, connectors and antenna, re-tested on the local Etisalat 4G network with connectivity to Transit Fire.
The Ajman Weqayah project commenced in late 2022 and is expected to activate 5,000 to 6,000 buildings per year each with an ATE service life of 10 years.

South Australian Metro Fire Service
For several decades the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service has been a leader in adopting new Alarm Signalling Equipment technology. With existing 3G services being shutdown, Telstra and SAMFS selected Transdigital as the provider of new ASE equipment for their state-wide fire monitoring service. SAMFS recognised the need to upgrade their existing system to improve their response times, reduce risks, and enhance the overall effectiveness of their operations.
